Majority Leader Schumer Floor Remarks On The Senate Confirming 100 Women To The Federal Bench, More Than The Full First Term Of Any President, And The Senate Continuing Its Work To Advance Highly-Qualified Nominees

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today spoke on the Senate floor on the Senate’s confirmation of 100 women and 150 judges to the federal bench during President Biden’s first term. Below are Senator Schumer’s remarks, which can also be viewed here:

Last night, the Senate reached a major milestone: we confirmed the 100th woman—and our 150th judge overall—to the federal bench since Democrats took the Majority. It’s not only nearly double the amount [of women] confirmed by President Trump in all his four years, it’s significantly more women than any full first term of any president.

And we are going to hold more votes today: we’ll begin by confirming Ramon Reyes, Jr. as District Judge for the Eastern District of New York, who will become only the second Hispanic man to sit on the Eastern District. We will also advance highly quality judges and nominees, other ones, in the afternoon.
