Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement following his meeting with Labor Secretary nominee Julie Su:
“I had a very productive conversation with President Biden’s outstanding nominee for Labor Secretary, Julie Su. It was clear from our discussion that Julie Su will be a strong fighter for America’s workers, as our next Labor Secretary.
“As a veteran litigator, Julie has been on the frontlines of protecting workers’ rights for years. From helping place people in good paying jobs, to doggedly fighting against wage theft, Julie knows the ins and outs of labor firsthand. She will use that knowledge to strengthen our workforce and our economy.
“We discussed the serious challenges facing American workers today and ensuring that all workers no matter their industry are protected in the workplace. We also focused on the transformational moment we are in because of the legislation passed last Congress. We are creating hundreds of thousands of jobs rebuilding our infrastructure, bringing manufacturing back to America, and expanding the clean energy economy. Now we need to train a generation of Americans to put to work, something I know Julie will make a top priority, training workers to close the skills gap to help land good-paying jobs.
“I am confident that Julie Su will be a phenomenal Labor Secretary where she will work to build a stronger, more inclusive economy. The Senate will work quickly to consider her nomination.”
