Majority Leader Schumer Statement On Senate Armed Services Committee Passage Of The NDAA

New York, NY – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement following the passage of this year’s NDAA in the Senate Armed Services Committee:

“Democrats have led the way in ensuring our military is the best trained and best equipped fighting force in the world. Earlier this year, Democrats along with some of our Republican colleagues voted to reject the isolationism of the MAGA wing of the Republican Party and support a $95 billion national security supplemental on top of what we had already appropriated for defense.

“The higher topline in the Senate NDAA reflects the bipartisan support to ensure robust funding for our national security.

“Like it or not, despite the topline number in the NDAA, the indisputable fact is that the bipartisan Fiscal Responsibility Act agreement reached last year sets topline spending for FY2025. To increase funding for the Department of Defense, Congress would have to either repeal the FRA caps or reach a new budget agreement. In that case, Democrats are committed to ensuring an equitable increase in our domestic investments alongside an increase in defense spending.”
