Majority Leader Schumer Statement On Senate National Security Supplemental Legislation

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement on the Senate’s national security supplemental legislation to support Ukraine, Israel, humanitarian aid for Gaza, the Indo-Pacific, and more. The bill text can be found here:

“Democrats in the Senate and Administration worked in good faith to forge a bipartisan compromise after months of hard work and negotiation with Senate Republicans. Now, Senate Republicans have an historic opportunity to address the situation at the border.

“Our first vote today will show who is serious about fixing the border and who is for chaos.

“However, if the Senate Republicans choose to vote against this vital package, I will move to immediately reconsider a new vehicle so we can move forward the supplemental that addresses our national security priorities without the bipartisan border agreement.

“Republicans first insisted the only way to pass this National Security Supplemental was with a border package attached. Now, they are saying the only way it can proceed is without. I am giving them both options. Democrats are ready to move forward on either option.

“If Republicans want to meet this moment, and finally proved they want to fix about the “crisis” they have screamed about for months, now is their time. They will now have the opportunity to show the American people if they will set up to the plate to protect our border and protect Democracy.

“The text for the Supplemental package with aid to Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific and humanitarian aid for Gaza posted for the world to see.”
