Majority Leader Schumer Statement On Speaker Johnson’s Press Conference At Mar-a-Lago

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), today released the following statement on Speaker Johnson’s press conference at Mar-a-Lago and the Speaker’s proposed legislation:

“Today’s press conference is simply designed to further sow confusion and distrust in our elections. Even the conservative CATO institute has said, noncitizens are not voting in federal elections or state elections. Donald Trump, the big lie and those who stoke it for partisan politics are the real threats to our democracy. 

“Donald Trump is not at all serious about border security. At his direction, Senate Republicans blocked a bipartisan tough border security package because Donald Trump made clear he would rather keep the chaos at the border going so he can exploit it on the campaign trail, instead of letting the Senate do the right thing and fix it.”
