Majority Leader Schumer Statement On Supreme Court Decision To Uphold The Indian Child Welfare Act

Washington, D.C.– Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today released the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to protect the Constitutional right of tribal sovereignty. Below is Senator Schumer’s statement:

“The Indian Child Welfare Act has been the law of the land for decades and today the Supreme Court upheld the Constitutional right of tribal sovereignty. For hundreds of years, indigenous communities have fought for their very existence, and today is nothing short of a momentous day that ensures that indigenous children maintain a connection to their culture.”
