Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement today after the FTC proposed a new rule to ban noncompete clauses:
“The FTC is finally tearing up the noncompete clauses that hold American workers hostage for decades. These noncompete clauses stack the deck against workers, depress wages, and limit their ability to advance in their careers. I’m proud to have supported in the Senate each of the members of the FTC who voted to restrict this troubling practice and I applaud Chairwoman Khan and the FTC for their leadership on this new rule that will help working families get ahead. This proposal will empower workers by giving them the flexibility and opportunity to succeed and do what’s best for their families.”
