Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senate Democrats today released a new video showing that the Republicans celebrated passage of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) – without knowing just how disastrous the bill would actually be for millions of Americans. The video shows President Trump and House Republicans celebrating the bill’s passage in the House of Representatives, contrasted with what we now know from the Congressional Budget Office: this bill would have a devastating effect on millions of Americans.
According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office’s new report, the AHCA would result in 23 million Americans losing their health coverage by 2026. Some of the services cut in the new bill could include maternity care, mental health treatment, substance abuse treatment, rehabilitation services, and children’s dental care. The CBO also estimated that some with preexisting conditions would find it harder – and in some cases, impossible – to purchase health coverage because of premiums being too expensive.
Senate Democrats said this is the opposite of a healthcare bill – it would actually be a cancer on the American healthcare system. Senate Democrats called this bill cruel and highlighted that it may increase premiums, especially on Americans who are poor, older, and less healthy (and in some cases, as much as 800 percent). A bill this detrimental to millions of Americans cannot be allowed to pass the Senate.
