Senate Dems To Trump: Stop Holding The American People Hostage And Open The Government

Washington, D.C. – Today, on the Senate steps of the U.S. Capitol Building, members of the Senate Democratic Caucus highlighted the devastating effects the Trump Shutdown is having on American workers and families and called on President Trump to re-open the government immediately. This past Friday, an estimated 800,000 federal workers did not receive their paycheck, pushing many families into dire financial straits leaving them unable to pay their rent or mortgages, some struggling to choose between buying food, paying heating bills, or purchasing essential medications. If the shutdown continues, more Americans will suffer as millions could lose access to essential benefits and programs, such as food stamps, housing assistance, and more. Senate Democrats urged President Trump to put an end to the shutdown he was “proud” to start and re-open the government.
