Schumer Statement On Biden National Security And Foreign Policy Appointments
Brooklyn, N.Y. — Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) today issued the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s announcement naming key members of his national security and foreign policy team:
“President-elect Biden’s announcement of key foreign policy and national security officials are exactly what the moment demands. They are all qualified, accomplished individuals with substantial experience serving our nation, a total departure from the unqualified, unethical, and often-cruel cabinet officials appointed by President Trump over the last four years. This is the beginning of a return to competent leadership for our country.
“Our nation is facing unprecedented crises and we need the next administration to hit the ground running to tackle these challenges. Unfortunately, by refusing to acknowledge the reality that Joe Biden is the President-elect, Senate Republicans and the General Services Administration are delaying critical FBI background checks for nominees and officials, thereby stalling an orderly transition and putting our national security in jeopardy. Every Senator, regardless of party, must strongly condemn the GSA’s continued obstruction of the transition process. It is long past time for the GSA Administrator Emily Murphy to officially recognize Joe Biden as the President-elect and Kamala Harris as the Vice President-elect and allow the peaceful transfer of power to begin.”
