Schumer Statement On Historic Senate Ratification Of The Kigali Amendment To The Montreal Protocol

Washington, D.C. – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement today as the Senate ratified the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol:

“Ratifying the Kigali Amendment along with passing the Inflation Reduction Act is the strongest one-two punch against climate change any Congress has ever taken.

“The Kigali Amendment, which eliminates polluting hydrofluorocarbons, is a historic step forward to combatting global warming in a huge way. It will reduce global temperatures by about half a degree Celsius by the end of this century, a little talked about fact with very significant impact.

“This is a win-win in our fight against climate change and will go a long way to battle rising global temperatures while also creating tens of thousands of good paying American jobs.”
