Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement regarding the importance of keeping the Senate’s bipartisan ZTE amendment in the defense bill after President Trump met with Republican members of Congress this afternoon to urge them to support the administration’s ZTE deal:
“My Republican colleagues must resist efforts by the Trump administration – at the behest of the Government of China - to get them to water down or back off of the Senate’s strong language on ZTE in the defense bill. Protecting American jobs and our nation’s security must remain paramount and not something that we can compromise on. As my colleagues on both sides of the aisle have already stated, it is vital that our colleagues in the House keep this bipartisan provision in the defense bill as it heads towards a conference.”
