Schumer Statement On New Nonpartisan Analysis Confirming Inflation Reduction Act Will Put US On Path Toward 40% Emission Reduction By 2030 And Reduce Deaths And Asthma Attacks

Washington, DC – Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement today in response to new analysis by the nonpartisan Energy Innovation on the environmental impacts of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022:

“A new nonpartisan analysis by Energy Innovation has found, the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 will create millions of jobs, reduce premature deaths from air pollution, and at last put the US on a path to roughly 40 percent emission reductions by 2030. Put simply, this legislation will save lives, create jobs and reduce costs.

“Like the creation of the EPA and the passage of the Clean Air Act half a century ago, this legislation will mark a turning point in our nation’s commitment to protect our planet for our children and our grandchildren.

“Importantly, the new analysis finds that ‘through greater clean energy deployment, the bill could avoid up to 3,900 premature deaths and up to 100,000 asthma attacks annually by 2030’, making this bill a strong stride towards climate justice for communities long left behind, especially communities of color.”
