Schumer Statement On Ninth Circuit Court Ruling Against Trump’s Misuse Of Congressionally Appropriated Funds For Ineffective, Wasteful Southern Border Wall

Washington, D.C.— Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer today released following statement in response to the Ninth Circuit Court ruling that President Trump cannot divert congressionally appropriated funds to his ineffective, wasteful southern border wall:

“The Ninth Circuit’s decision today is a victory for the separation of powers doctrine that is the cornerstone of our democracy. The court makes clear that the Trump administration’s attempt, supported by Senate Republican enablers, to redirect funds Congress already appropriated for military families and counter-drug programs violates the law. Republicans must join with Democrats to demand President Trump and his administration respect Congress’s constitutional power of the purse.”
