Schumer Statement On President Trump’s Executive Order To Waive Environmental Review

Washington, D.C. – Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer released the following statement today in response to reporting that President Trump will sign an executive order to waive environmental review on major projects:

“Environmental reviews are critical to the protection of public health and one of the last lines of defense to give communities of color, indigenous people and the poor a voice in major infrastructure projects that happen in their backyards. By signing this executive order, Donald Trump is muzzling the voice of environmental justice communities, and continues to make clear his total disregard for those speaking out and fighting for racial justice and a sustainable environment.”
