Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement in response to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:
“If Republicans continue to insist on measures outside of the Dream Act and sensible border security that excludes the wall, they’re going to risk ruining a bipartisan agreement to protect the Dreamers. Rather than trying to build up a deportation force, we hope Republicans in Congress will work towards a smart, sensible agreement to protect the Dreamers and improve security along the southern border. At the same time, I was pleased to hear Department of Homeland Security officials acknowledge on the record that under a rational bill, Dreamers should be allowed to become lawful permanent residents on a pathway to citizenship.”
