Schumer Statement On Trump Administration’s Decision To Significantly Weaken Protections For Endangered Species

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer today released the following statement in response to the Trump Administration’s announcement that it will change the way the Endangered Species Act is applied, resulting in significantly weaker protections for wildlife:

“The Trump Administration’s shortsighted decision to significantly weaken the Endangered Species Act is a slap in the face to those fighting to address the climate crisis and undermines four decades of wildlife conservation efforts. Once again, the Trump Administration is prioritizing profits for big oil ahead of the health and safety of our planet and future generations. With a million species at risk of facing extinction because of climate change, it is all the more important that our conservation efforts be aggressive and based on sound science, something to which the Trump Administration has proven to be allergic.”
