At bridges, train stations, transit centers, flood walls, schools, parks, ports, and more, Senate Democrats have spread the word about how the once-in-a-generation Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act will transform communities big and small by updating our roads, bridges, and airports, expanding access to broadband, and promoting American competitiveness.


ARIZONA


KNXV:  Sen. Kyrsten Sinema on the passage of her infrastructure bill and what’s next. “In a Zoom call with Arizona reporters on Monday, Sinema said it won’t be long before Arizonans start seeing work to repair and improve the state’s crumbling infrastructure.” [KNXV, 11/8/21]


KYMA:  SL Port of Entry to receive $300 million according to Sen. Kelly.  “A $1.9 trillion infrastructure bill is ready for President Biden's signature. Some of that money will be spent right here at our local ports of entry. That’s why U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly toured the border and the San Luis Port of Entry today, to see just how severe the needs are when it comes to protection and staffing.” [KYMA, 11/9/21]


Navajo-Hopi Observer:  Sen. Mark Kelly visits Navajo Nation, lauds water rights, vets. “Members of the U.S. Congress can smile on the local areas they represent or look the other way. Arizona Republic:  Planes, trains and supply chains: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg touts investments in Arizona. “Buttigieg, along with U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, Valley Metro CEO Scott Smith and others, spoke at a morning event held at the shuttered Metrocenter Mall property near Interstate 17 and Dunlap Avenue, which will be the end of the future northwest extension of the light rail line that's slated to open in 2024… Later, across the Valley at Mesa Community College, Kelly and U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema joined Buttigieg to tout the infrastructure bill and listen to community leaders involved with various parts of the supply chain, as the country tackles the international supply chain crisis.” [Arizona Republic, 11/19/21]

KOVR:  Sen. Alex Padilla In California Talking Up Infrastructure Bill. “Senator Alex Padilla was back in California today talking about the infrastructure bill that President Biden is about to sign. He says the state is a big winner from the bipartisan measure, with the largest share of the $1 trillion bill.” [KOVR, 11/9/21]

Padilla promises supply chain relief for Ports of LA, Long Beach via infrastructure bill. “High above the congested Port of Long Beach, where waiting ships, rail cars and stacked containers could be seen through a brown haze, U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla and other officials gathered Friday, Nov. 12, to promise that relief is on the way in the form of the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill set to be signed by President Joe Biden early next week.” [Long Beach Press-Telegram, 11/12/21]

The Day:  $100 million in federal funds to go toward restoring, preserving Long Island Sound. “Blumenthal said the more than $100 million is ‘the most significant single investment in Long Island Sound in our history.’ ‘It’s not only about the money. It’s about the federal commitment. It’s a recognition that the entire nation has a stake in Long Island Sound,’ Blumenthal said Tuesday. ‘This is also about climate change. We’re going to see more flooding, more erosion. The purpose of this $106 million is not only to protect wildlife and Long Island Sound but to prevent flooding and erosion.’” [The Day, 11/9/21]


Register Citizen:  Blumenthal: Expanded and faster internet access coming to northwest Connecticut. “More money for roads and bridge projects, and $100 million to improve internet access for outlying towns, including those in the northwest corner, is coming to the state, according to U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal.” [Register Citizen, 11/10/21]


News-Times:  How some of $5.38 billion in federal funding could be spent on I-84, rail line in Danbury. “’It’s a historic breakthrough, literally,’ U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal said outside the Danbury train station Wednesday morning when touting the federal package approved last week. ‘It’s going to benefit Danbury more than most other towns in the state because I think you are truly poised for progress.’” [News-Times, 11/10/21]


DELAWARE


Cape Gazette:  Carper tours Delmarva Central Railroad in Seaford. “’Delmarva Central Railroad is a vital part of moving goods through the region and keeping our economy moving forward,’ said Carper. ‘Just last week, Congress passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which makes extraordinary investments into our nation’s infrastructure and helps short lines like DCR with more funding opportunities through grant programs. It’s important to recognize how railroads large and small are driving growth across the country and doing so in a way that cuts emissions.’” [Cape Gazette, 11/21/21]


WDEL:  Building support for the Infrastructure Act. “The state of Delaware is expected to receive more than one-and-a-half-billion dollars through the infrastructure act. Ledger-Enquirer:  Millions of dollars will fund ‘major upgrades’ to Columbus infrastructure, Democratic leaders say. “Muscogee County will receive at least $20.7 million to improve and expand its public transportation, Ossoff said during his Tuesday visit to the METRA Transit System’s administrative office on Linwood Boulevard. ‘That’s the floor,’ he said. ‘We’re likely to see more than that coming to Columbus over the next five years.’” [Ledger-Enquirer, 11/24/21]


Augusta Chronicle:  Money for transit, water, internet and bridges is on the way, says Ossoff, Augusta leaders. “More than $20 million from the federal bipartisan infrastructure act should be arriving in Augusta to support public transportation, clean water, internet access and bridges as soon as next year. While the details of how much money the city will receive are still being worked out, that was the minimum Sen. Jon Ossoff promised at the foot of the Fifth Street bridge – now under renovation into a pedestrian walkway – on Tuesday afternoon.” [Augusta Chronicle, 11/24/21]


Telegraph:  Congress recently passed a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill. Here’s how it could impact Macon. “Sen. Jon Ossoff, Rep. Sanford Bishop and county leaders highlighted portions of the bill during a press conference Tuesday at Amerson River Park. ‘We are delivering the most significant investment in Georgia’s infrastructure in generations. We’ve done it bipartisan bringing Democrats and Republicans together to make these historic investments in our infrastructure,’ said Ossoff. ‘We are delivering on the promise.’” [Telegraph, 11/27/21]


HAWAII


Hawaii Public Radio:  US Sen. Brian Schatz breaks down Hawai?i's $2.8B share of the federal infrastructure bill. “U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz said this is one of the largest federal investments in infrastructure the state has seen in decades. ‘Personally, the thing I’m most excited about is about $160 million for broadband across the state of Hawai?i,’ the senator said. ‘People need broadband connections to interact with their primary care physicians, people need broadband to talk to their teacher or professor, a lot of times they need broadband just to work, have a meeting.’” [Hawaii Public Radio, 11/18/21]


Honolulu Star-Advertiser:  Nearly $500 million in rail funds set to expire are saved. “Some $493 million in federal funds earmarked for the city’s rail project that were set to expire at the end of the year have been extended for two more years as part of President Joe Biden’s infrastructure plan. U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz — a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development — told the Honolulu Star- Advertiser’s ‘Spotlight Hawaii’ livestream program on Wednesday that the money pledged to the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation was scheduled to expire on Dec. 31 if unspent.” [Honolulu Star-Advertiser, 11/25/21]


ILLINOIS


WGEM:  Duckworth highlights clean water portion of federal infrastructure law. “Illinois will receive $17 billion from the infrastructure plan President Joe Biden signed into law this week. Sen. Tammy Duckworth says the state will quickly see the effects of this plan. The Gray TV Illinois Capitol Bureau spoke with Duckworth about a portion of the law that she is most proud of. You’ve likely seen or heard people talk about issues with lead pipes in Illinois for years. State lawmakers passed a plan earlier this year to remove those pipes. Duckworth continued that effort by pushing for the water infrastructure portion of the new federal law.” [WGEM, 11/19/21]


Belleville News-Democrat:  Will infrastructure money finally solve Cahokia Heights’ flooding and sewage problems? “The senator said she had places like Cahokia Heights in mind when she wrote the water and wastewater infrastructure portion of the bill. ‘We set up a whole system where there’s money carved out specifically for smaller communities,’ Duckworth said. ‘It’s a new tranche of money with the Bipartisan Infrastructure deal that is going to really jump-start the efforts and they’ll be well on their way to getting their problems solved.’” [Belleville News-Democrat, 11/26/21]


Chicago Tribune:  City officials like odds to win major grants; Money from $1T infrastructure bill to go into Chicago-area roads, bridges, more. “Given her involvement in getting Congress to authorize funds to replace lead lines, Duckworth expressed optimism that the Biden administration would award a sizable grant to Chicago. ‘I'm really proud to have been involved in helping get significant money in the bill for wastewater and drinking water, and that's really going to help the Chicagoland get rid of our lead pipes,’ Duckworth said in an interview.” [Chicago Tribune, 11/29/21]


State Journal-Register:  'We're all going to be real winners on this'; Infrastructure bill will be felt in central Illinois, officials say. "’The initial impact is going to be the inconvenience of construction,’ U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield, one of the bill's proponents, told The State Journal-Register. ‘But we all know that this is temporary. Baltimore Sun:  President Biden tours Port of Baltimore to tout infrastructure bill as his administration seeks to regain momentum. “’I do think the American people want a government that delivers,’ Sen. Chris Van Hollen, a Maryland Democrat, told reporters before Biden arrived. ‘This is important delivery.’” [Baltimore Sun, 11/10/21]


Baltimore Sun:  Bus lanes a priority in $22 million grant touted by Buttigieg to improve Baltimore public transit. “The package includes a big boost for the RAISE program, said Van Hollen, who had been pushing for increased transit money. ‘The fund just got replenished in a big way,’ the senator said in an interview.” [Baltimore Sun, 11/23/21]


MASSACHUSETTS


WAMC:  After infrastructure bill signing, Sen. Markey discusses Build Back Better, defense budget. “This week, the party had opportunity to celebrate when Biden signed the $1 trillion infrastructure bill – passed with bipartisan support – on Monday. Havre Daily News:  Tester: St. Mary Diversion funding 'massive'. “Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., said in an interview with Havre Daily News that getting $100 million in funding that likely will go to the St. Mary Diversion is a really big deal. ‘It will be massive,’ he said. ‘... It's a big deal. Long Island Press:  LIRR, Metro-North to Get $2.6B in Federal BIF Funds, Schumer Announces. “The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North commuter rails will receive $2.6 billion in federal funding under the newly passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF) bill, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer announced on Wednesday. Standing outside the Massapequa Park LIRR station, Schumer detailed plans to upgrade several LIRR stations, including Massapequa Park, St. Albans, and Locust Manor, to be more accessible to those with disabilities with the addition of elevators to the platforms.” [Long Island Press, 11/10/21]


WHEC:  Schumer: Infrastructure bill funds to be used to remove lead pipes in Rochester. “The new bipartisan infrastructure bill pushed by President Joe Biden and passed through the Senate last week could mean big changes to Rochester and surrounding areas. Friday New York Senator and Maj. Leader Chuck Schumer (D) was in Rochester promising to use the money in the deal to make the city's water completely lead-free. With hundreds more Rochester children being diagnosed with lead poisoning last year, Sen. New York Post:  NYC set to receive billions in funding from infrastructure bill. “The package includes as much as $10.7 billion for the MTA’s subways, buses and commuter rails, $2 billion for bridge and tunnel work, $685 million for the region’s airports, $100 million to further expand broadband internet access, $175 million to install new charging stations for electric vehicles and $50 million for ‘Vision Zero’ street safety efforts like improving bike lanes… ‘This is a big, big deal,’ said Hizzoner, who was joined at the press conference by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).” [New York Post, 11/16/21]


Buffalo News:  Infrastructure bill includes several Gillibrand initiatives. Gillibrand, a New York Democrat, held a conference call with reporters on Wednesday to praise the bill. She noted that it will bring $27 billion to New York for roads, bridges, internet access, airport projects, the removal of lead water pipes and other improvements. ‘This package will create jobs, boost our economy, deliver funding to rebuild New York’s aging infrastructure and help rebuild underserved communities,’ Gillibrand said. ‘This once-in-a-generation investment will build a stronger, more resilient economy and lay the foundation for a brighter future.’” [Buffalo News, 11/18/21]


WSHU:  Schumer urges Long Island school districts to apply for newly replenished federal cybersecurity grants. “U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer visited Long Island schools this week to encourage officials to apply for recently renewed cybersecurity grants. This comes after school districts across Long Island have been hit by more than a dozen attacks since 2018, including Manhasset schools in September. Schumer said the recent passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill will authorize $1 billion be given to the Department of Homeland Security cybersecurity grant program.
