Reid: Admiral Fallon's Resignation More Evidence That Bush Administration Silences Opposing Voices
Washington, DC—Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made the following statement today in response to news of U.S. CENTCOM Commander Adm. William J. Fallon’s resignation:
“I am concerned that the resignation of Admiral William J. Fallon, commander of all U.S. forces in the Middle East and a military leader with more than three decades of command experience, is yet another example that independence and the frank, open airing of experts’ views are not welcomed in this Administration.
“It is also a sign that the Administration is blind to the growing costs and consequences of the Iraq war, which has so damaged America’s security interests in the Middle East and beyond. Democrats will continue to examine these matters very closely in the coming weeks and months.”

The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the House Message on H.R.1586. There will be 1 hour for debate equally divided and controlled between the two Leaders or their designees, with Senator Murray controlling the Majority time.
Upon the use or yielding back of time (around 10:40 a.m.), the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to concur in the House amendment to the Senate amendment to H.R. 1586, with Reid for Murray amendment #4575 (FMAP and Teacher Funding).
