April 8, 2008 Reid Spokesman: White House Clings To Same 'Wait-And-See' Approach On Housing That Has Already Weakened EconomyWashington, DC—Jim Manley, Spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, released the following statement today in response to White House Press Secretary Dana Perino’s remarks that the White House does not support the housing bill before the Senate: “Ms. Perino’s comments sound like yet another excuse to do nothing to help the thousands of American families facing foreclosure each day. The White House has made it clear it is content to help Wall Street while Main Street fends for itself, and wrongly thinks this problem will fix itself in time. Now, even after a bipartisan Senate voted 92-6 to bring up a housing bill that helps homeowners keep their homes, helps others buy new ones, and helps businesses and communities hurt by this crisis recover, the White House still says no. In case this Administration hasn’t noticed, its hands-off, wait-and-see approach is exactly what got us into this mess to begin with.” ###
